Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:
Zoey: CandlesbyZoeyCo
Hi, my name is Zoey! I'm a wife and stay at home mother to my daughter, Avery.
Crafting has always been a passion of mine. I love farmhouse and rustic material. I decided to turn that passion into an Etsy shop:)
My inspiration comes from my mother. She was diagnosed with meningitis two years ago. She is still in the process of recovering every day. Unfortunately, meningitis has caused a brain injury which has changed her way of life. We have always loved to burn candles and have them throughout the house. With her injury, she wasn't able to tolerate strong scents anymore as they would cause a headache. Instead of getting rid of candles completely, we decided to experiment and find the best product to prevent a headache from happening. This is what lead up to create our wonderful candles!
We decided to share this with other families who may be experiencing the same thing! You may not have a brain injury, but maybe you get headaches from strong smells! We hope you can enjoy the beautiful smells, without the headaches. Thank you for supporting our small business
What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?
We make clean burning candles made from 100% soy wax and cotton wick candles. Each candle is hand made with the best ingredients. We have 7 scents at the moment that are my personal favorites. Each one brings back memories and are so fun to burn. We are very passionate about our candles and have a story behind them.
What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?
Biggest roadblock was being new and competing with other candle companies. We created a brand for ourselves and started to show more about why we do what we do. My mother is the whole inspiration behind these candles and with that you can connect with others. Building connections has really helped us.
How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?
We are very fortunate that we have not had to adapt much. We are making sure all products are clean and safe. We have upped our hand washing to insure we are not spreading germs while making our candles.
What is your favorite part of what you do?
Testing new scents. It's so much fun to enjoy other smells and find the best ones that fit our personality and what others would enjoy.
What is your *must do* local activity?
Must do here in our community is walk the Stone Arch Bridge. Its beautiful and goes over the Mississippi river. So peaceful and a great activity to do by yourself or with family.
