Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:
We source post consumer waste such as old blue jeans, old sailboat sails, decommissioned climbing rope to upcycle them into new products. We believe that waste is a design flaw, so we design our products so that we can recycle them again and keep them out of the landfill.
Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?
For Circular Threads, we wanted a name tied to the circular economy, which is both our mission and passion. Companies with circular business models keep materials in use as long as possible. Since our focus is on repurposing post-consumer textile waste, we chose the second word, Threads to tie it to fabric and textiles.
What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?
Our dog collars made from post-consumer recycled water bottles. We designed the collars so that they used USA sourced materials that could also be recycled when they were no longer needed.
What makes your business unique to the industry?
There are many businesses focused on either making products with recycled or upcycled materials. Our mission takes this an extra step, by taking responsibility for the products we make from inception to end of life. You can return any product you purchase from us so that we can recycle it, keeping it out of the landfill. There aren’t too many company’s that say “when you no longer need it, we want it back.”
What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?
With the outbreak of Covid19 in our community, it absolutely crushed our plans for a breakout year. We tabled all product launches to focus on sewing face masks for hospitals. All of our vendor events for the year were scratched, and traveling to meet suppliers was cancelled to. Our business model for the rest of the year has changed from face to face marketing at farmers markets and vendor craft fairs to online only.
How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?
We had to lay off our only employee, So I am solo now. When the Pandemic hit, there we’re no orders to fulfill and our business location was ordered closed by the town. We are trying to build awareness of our brand on social media with the hope that our message gets out. We are now sewing at home, and hoping to pivot to online only sales for the rest of the year.
What is your favorite part of what you do?
I love creating products from waste. I am excited to show you some of the products that I am working on that are created from recycled climbing rope, they are really fun.
What is your *must do* local activity?
In Frisco, the town is such a fun tourist destination. When the Pandemic hit, it turned into a ghost town and all of the tourists left. If you are visiting the town in the winter, you must ski or snowboard at one of the great resorts nearby. If visiting in the summer, rent a kayak or SUP at Lake Dillon for a relaxing paddle.
