Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:
I am constantly learning about the landscape and tuned in to its nuances, the feeling I get and portraying it in Printmaking techniques. Each medium can support different aspects of the landscape thus I work with Monotype, Etchings, Linocuts, Collagraph. They support the different textures, color, detail and impact our landscape offers. Since my Master Printer days I continue to use these mediums because they serve the soul of this land with a good base of tone.
Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?
Struggled with this so much. My name is so long that it might be a hinderance but my last name is such a strong powerful and to a point unique. So Artista helps by describing the Fine Art realm I am in.
What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?
My style becomes the landscape and how people feel about it. The images have a lot of elements that the viewer discovers at different times and it keeps them engaged. Sometimes it is the delicate color, the textures that define the different foliage, the visual depth that has atmospheric qualities that help the viewer feel the setting of what I was viewing. It is all about the passion I have for the landscape be it a flower, a tree, a cloud or a whole panoramic setting.
What makes your business unique to the industry?
I bring integrity to a medium that is sometimes used as a print as opposed to Fine Art Printmaking. This medium has properties that go beyond and can be used to portray the landscape as opposed to the medium controlling the subject and how it may look.
What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?
The creation process and the business end both require attention and I have been failing in the business end. So much of ones success is connected to business skills that is a constant and necessary learning curve. I do the least I can but always continue to learn new office skills that will help along the way.
How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?
It has been very unnerving not having our venue open. I have tried personal space that has exposed my work to new eyes and seen in a different setting which has been refreshing. My biggest move is to complete a website, coming.
What is your favorite part of what you do?
When the image has a life of its own. My connection physically is done and I get to enjoy the image
What is your *must do* local activity?
Del Charro, del charro burger with a house Margarita.
