Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do:
I am Laura Ann and I make jams, marmalades and fruit spreads.
Let us know more about your business name - how did you come up with it?
I wanted to call it Jamasutra but during the process all my friends kept calling it Laura Ann's Jams...it just stuck! ;-)
What is your signature style / item? How did it become so?
I don't think I have a "signature" flavor but I have become famous for fun & interesting flavor combos that are not only great on toast but also make tasty cocktails!
What makes your business unique to the industry?
My jams are unique in flavor profiles that people get addicted to!
What's been your biggest roadblock when it comes to business and how have you been able to overcome?
Just keeping up with legal issues & sourcing. I just have to be super organized and make sure that you stay connected with your peers. Staying in a community and being gracious with your own biz owner.
How has your business had to adapt amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic? What are you doing to navigate the situation?
My business is 1/2 wholesale and 1/2 online. Most of the restaurants that carried my jams are now closed so I went almost 80% online. I am just trying to promote a bit more and be as "seen" as I can. Staying personally healthy and get a head of myself with cooking jams so I have it on the shelves ready to go. It has been just difficult sourcing even bottles. It is taking a new level of organization. I am just taking it day by day, like the rest of us.
What is your favorite part of what you do?
Dropping my last package of the day at the Post Office. I love mailing them and knowing they are on their way to put a smile on someone's face and nourishment in their tummies. It is the most rewarding feeling.
What is your *must do* local activity?
Musso & Franks. Having a martini at the bar is a MUST DO in Los Angeles. And (cough cough) they also use my strawberry vanilla jam in their signature dessert so when you are there - pair your martini with the Musso Torten, you will not regret it. :-)
